Citizens' Initiative
Do you live in Zoetermeer? Then you can use the citizens' initiative to have a subject placed on the City Council's agenda. This can be a detailed proposal or just a subject. The subject will then be on the agenda at the next council meeting.
Who may submit a citizens' initiative?
Anyone who is eligible to vote in the Zoetermeer municipal council elections and residents aged 14 and older who are eligible to vote in the municipal council elections from the age of 18 if they then still live in the municipality of Zoetermeer. These persons are 'entitled to initiative'.
Conditions for submitting a citizens' initiative
- The proposal or topic must not be about a private matter.
- The council must have jurisdiction over the proposal or topic.
- You must include at least 10 signatures from Zoetermeerders who support your proposal. This is called statements of support (more explanation in the item below).
- The other conditions can be found in the Citizens' Initiative Regulation.
Declarations of support for citizens' initiative
To submit the citizens' initiative, you need a list of at least 10 signatures of other initiative supporters (see previous explanation above) who support your proposal. We call these statements of support.
On the list put:
- The subject or proposal (in the same words you used in your request).
- Do you need more than 1 sheet for supporters' signatures? Then you must repeat the proposal or topic at the top of each new sheet.
- Supporters' names, addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, e-mail addresses and signatures.
You may wish to use the sample signature form (pdf). You can print this form and fill it out (or have it filled out).
