Mandela Bridge lift working again

The elevator at the Nelson Mandela Bridge is working again. In late September 2024, we were faced with the fact that one of the elevators was broken and even a second elevator had to be taken out of service. It is not often that 2 elevators are broken at the same time. The small elevator will be put back into service on Friday, October 18. Should it happen again that 2 elevators are broken we will communicate about it on this page (zoetermeer.nl/mandelabrug).

Patience with boarding

We call on everyone to be patient when boarding. The elevators of the Mandela Bridge have very sensitive sensors. If someone drives into them, or if someone wants to quickly get into the elevator, a malfunction can occur. Sometimes it helps to be patient, but often the technology is forced, causing the elevator to fail.

Work winter 2022/2023

After being closed for 55 days, the Nelson Mandela Bridge has been open to pedestrians and cyclists since 26 January 2023. The Zoetermeer railway station and the Driemanspolder RandstadRail stop are also back in use. The bridge was closed due to work to make the bridge structurally safe. An important moment was the replacement of the bridge section above the A12 motorway on 29 December 2022.
