Update December 31, 2022 - A12 and Zuidweg
The A12 freeway near Zoetermeer reopened to traffic in both directions at 11:45 p.m. Friday evening, December 30. This was possible earlier than planned because the work on the Nelson Mandela Bridge went smoothly.
Zuidweg
Starting Monday, January 2, 2023 7 a.m., the northbound lane of Zuidweg will be closed. This is the lane towards Africa Road. The closure of Zuidweg begins at the intersection with Mahatma Gandhisingel. There will be a detour via Mahatma Gandhisingel, Albert Schweitzersingel and Houtsingel. This is indicated with signs.
On the southbound lane of Zuidweg (towards Oostweg), the bus lane and part of the right turn lane will be closed only at the Nelson Mandela Bridge from January 2. This will allow traffic to remain on the southbound lane of Zuidweg . The duration of the closure is not yet known. It depends on the completion of work to support the bridge section of the Nelson Mandela Bridge above Zuidweg.
The bus stop near the Nelson Mandela Bridge has been closed since Dec. 19, 2022.
Emergency services will use the Zuidweg and the detour. Therefore, emergency services will not experience any inconvenience from the bridge closure.
It is inevitable that the work and traffic measures will lead to increased traffic in Rokkeveen in the coming period, especially around the Nelson Mandela Bridge and the Rokkeveen shopping center.
From Wednesday, December 14, 7 a.m., the bicycle path (Nootdorpsepad) along the north side of the A12 will be completely closed between the junction with the bicycle path Waterpad and on the other side near the junction with the bicycle path Delftsewallenpad. (Moped) and bicycle traffic will be diverted via signs. More information can be found under the topic'Cyclists'.
