Film screening Anak India - Thursday, Aug. 28

In the Dutch East Indies, World War II did not end until Aug. 15, 1945, when Japan surrendered. For many, this day marks the end of a profound chapter in our common history. 80 Years of Freedom Zoetermeer celebrates this and invites you to the special film screening of Anak Indië - an impressive story of resilience, identity and a shared past.

The film uses unique archival footage to show what it is like to be born between 2 cultures, and is enhanced by the moving piano playing of composer and musician Mariëtte Hehakaya, who brings together Moluccan and Dutch culture. Using personal stories and cultural heritage - from the Indian rice table to music and visual culture - Anak Indië shows how this history still resonates in the Netherlands.
