Glass Radio House in theme of low literacy

For 12 percent of Zoetermeer residents, it is a daily reality: not being able to read signs on public transportation, not being able to read menus, not being able to help with (grand)children's homework, and not knowing whether there is enough balance to buy groceries. These are just some of the situations people with low literacy face. In the Week of Reading and Writing we pay attention to people who have difficulty with reading, writing, arithmetic and digital skills. With the message: don't be ashamed, seek help.

Glass Radio House

During the Week of Reading and Writing (September 8 to 15), the Glass Radio House will be in Lansingerland from Wednesday to Saturday. This is just like the well-known program Serious Request but not to raise money for a good cause but for awareness of low literacy. The Glazen Radiohuis takes place annually in one of the municipalities of the Zoetermeer region. Besides playing music, the radio makers host various organizations that tell what they can do for people with language and math problems. Such as the Taalhuis, Stichting Piëzo and NLTraining. There is also an interview with the Zoetermeer Alderman for Education Marijke van der Meer.

Language House

Central help point in Zoetermeer is the Taalhuis (in the library) where people can walk in without an appointment for information, advice and practical support, for example with computers and telephone. The Taalhuis can refer to courses, for example, and can also help match someone with a volunteer. So do you recognize yourself or someone around you who could use some extra help? Listen to the broadcast or come to the Language House.
