National Video Game Museum and the municipality of Zoetermeer sign lease agreement
The lease agreement between the municipality of Zoetermeer and the National Videogame Museum has been officially signed. This means that the move to the new location at Stadhuisplein is final. In the coming months, the building will be renovated, after which the opening is planned for February 2026.
New location offers opportunities for growth
The National Videogame Museum, which has been located in various places in Zoetermeer since 2017, is moving to the new location in the Stadshart. The new space offers plenty of opportunities for renewed experiences for visitors. With its impressive collection over the years, the museum continues to offer the largest video game experience in the Netherlands and is a popular destination for families, schools and video game fans of all ages.
Alderman Wim Blansjaar (Culture): "With this agreement, the National Video Game Museum will be given a beautiful spot in the city centre. This offers plenty of opportunities for further growth and innovation. The museum will thus remain an important cultural attraction for Zoetermeer."
Looking ahead
The lease agreement has an initial term of 10 years and the handover of the keys is scheduled for September 1, 2025. After that, the museum will start with the further installation and furnishing of the space. The official opening of the museum at the new location is scheduled for February 2026.
The team at the National Videogame Museum is excited about the move and the new opportunities the location offers. Preparations for the design of the new space are in full swing and the museum is looking forward to the official opening in 2026.
Hasan Tasdemir, director of the National Videogame Museum: "The team and I can't wait to turn this beautiful location into the video game museum we always envisioned. We're in the starting blocks and believe us; it's going to be amazing!"
With the signing of the lease agreement, the move to the Stadhuisplein is officially a fact. The National Videogame Museum continues to make an important contribution to the cultural offering of Zoetermeer and strengthens the position of the Stadshart as a vibrant place for both residents and visitors.
