New art gallery Southbound opens with exhibit by Jacqueline Klos

The new Zuidwaarts art window was officially commissioned and opened by Alderman Jan Iedema. The first exhibition in this art window was organized by Zoetermeer visual artist Jacqueline Klos. Her exhibition, titled Flashbacks, invites passersby to pause and consider traces of the past.

About the exhibition 'Flashbacks'

Jacqueline Klos (1965) lives and works in Zoetermeer. She graduated from the art academy in 2021. Her work is characterized by a strong connection to the environment and a sensitive approach to time and memory. In the art gallery Zuidwaarts, Klos is showing 3 works: 2 photo prints and one spatial work. These tie in with the rest of the exhibition on display in the art showcase on Engelandlaan, where another 8 photographs are on display. Some of these artworks are directly inspired by Zoetermeer locations such as the Balijbos, Rokkeveen and Palenstein. Klos photographs places where transience is palpable and projects these images onto fragments of rubble, splintered wood or other natural materials. This creates a poetic interplay between image and matter, in which past and present converge.

About the art display window and art showcase

The Zuidwaarts art display and the Engelandlaan art showcase offer Zoetermeer artists a low-threshold way to show their work to the public. It thus enriches the public space. Every 3 months a new exhibition is organized by a guest curator. Anyone with an interesting idea for a mini-exhibition can apply to be a guest curator. There are some rules: the showcase is only intended for exhibitions of work by professional artists and the exhibited work must have a relationship with Zoetermeer. The municipality makes the space available free of charge and provides coordination and guidance.

Alderman Jan Iedema: "With the art windows, we offer local artists a stage in the heart of the city. It's great to see art enriching public spaces."
