New deposit boxes in Zoetermeer

Zoetermeer has added 15 deposit bins. These eye-catching bins have been placed in places where waste bins are regularly searched for deposit packaging. As a result, litter is created in these places. The deposit bins make it easy to dispose of empty cans and plastic bottles neatly, without them ending up in a regular bin.

Anyone wishing to dispose of an empty bottle or can can can now do so in one of the deposit containers. People who collect deposit containers can take them out in a clean and safe way to return them to a collection point. This prevents trash cans from being ransacked, which often leads to additional litter on the streets. It also prevents collectors from injuring themselves while searching through trash cans.

Deposit boxes in Zoetermeer

The deposit bins, placed by Deposit Money Netherlands, are part of the Clean is Just project, which aims to reduce litter in Zoetermeer. The deposit bins are spread over 3 areas in the city, where litter is more often created because bins are emptied by collectors:

  • Recreational area Zoetermeerse Plas
  • The 'candy route' between De Leyens shopping center and Alfrink College
  • The City Center

Designed by young designers Pablo Cantatore and Antonius Janssen, the bins look like a mailbox into which passersby can throw their empty cans or bottles. A tray at the bottom allows deposit seekers to grab the empty bottles or cans and hand them in at a collection point. The bins are easy to clean, prevent unpleasant odors and can hold about 40 cans or bottles. An evaluation of whether the placement of the deposit bins is successful will be conducted in 2027.

First bin officially inaugurated

Alderman Blansjaar (Waste) officially inaugurated the first deposit bin in the Stadshart. "With these deposit bins we make it easier for everyone to dispose of their empty bottle or can neatly. At the same time, we help people who want to hand them in for a deposit. This is how we keep Zoetermeer cleaner together," said Alderman Blansjaar.
