Zoetermeer also turns orange

From November 25 (International Day against Violence against Women) to December 10 (Human Rights Day), Zoetermeer participates in the international campaign Orange the World. This campaign calls attention to stopping violence against women. To make this visible, part of the town hall will also be colored orange and there will be an impressive exhibition.

Come see the exhibition Silent Scream

Councilwoman Véronique Frinking (health and welfare) opened the impressive exhibition Silent Scream by photographer and multimedia artist Henriëtte van Gasteren on Wednesday, Nov. 26. The exhibition shows penetrating photographs of women who are victims of sexual abuse. She often takes her photos in the places where the abuse took place, to make visible what too often remains hidden.

Councilwoman Veronique Frinking believes that violence against women is unacceptable: "Zoetermeer is participating in this global campaign because every woman deserves safety, respect and freedom. That is non-negotiable. Violence against women is not a private problem, it is a social problem. Together we can make a difference."

The exhibition was created in cooperation with GGD Haaglanden and can be visited free of charge from Wednesday, November 26 through Monday, December 2. Also come see it on weekdays from 10:00 to 15:00, in the former Fat Phill's on Stadhuisplein.

Young women host inspirational evenings

In addition to the exhibition, 2 young women from Zoetermeer are organizing inspiring evenings to break silence, provide a new perspective for outsiders and spark a conversation that has been too long absent. You are most welcome.

  • Thursday, Dec. 4: A special event featuring experiencer Janice Liqui Lung. She shares her personal story through a professional video clip, followed by an open discussion with experts in the field of domestic violence and the police.
  • Monday, Dec. 8: Art, emotion and empathy take center stage. Artist Eileen van Dam (25) presents her project The Things You Did To Me, in which she depicts the emotional aftermath of sexual abuse in 5 symbolic artworks.

More information about the exhibition and meetings can be found at vrouwenvanzoetermeer.nl.
