Clean is just - we do it together
How beautiful would Zoetermeer be without litter. Litter makes a messy impression, is bad for your health and for the environment. Keeping the streets clean by the municipality costs money. By no longer throwing away litter on the streets, we will ensure a cleaner city in which everyone feels more comfortable, safer and behaves more socially.
The municipality would like to involve residents and business owners in raising awareness and is therefore launching litter prevention actions for young people, schools, business owners, shoppers and parents.

Films about waste separation
Waste separation ensures that not all the raw materials in the waste are lost. Disposing of plastic packaging, paper, cans, textiles and beverage cartons (PBD) separately allows them to be recycled. But why is this important and how exactly does this happen? These videos show how it works in Zoetermeer.

How long does litter take to digest?
A banana peel is digested after 1 year, a cigarette butt (with filter) after 2 years. Chewing gum takes 20 years and a can can be found for up to 50 years. A plastic bottle is still easily recognizable after 100 years. 100 billion pounds of plastic waste floats in the Pacific Ocean (that's 100 million cars).
