Tourist tax
The municipality levies tourist tax because tourists use facilities in the municipality. Entrepreneurs who offer a place to sleep to tourists pay the tourist tax.
If you offer a place to sleep in your hotel, bed & breakfast, recreational home or campground, you will receive a tourist tax assessment. You can pass this amount on to the tourist who stays overnight with you.
If your guests live in the same municipality where your business is located, you do not have to pay tourist tax for your guests.
Tax assessment
- The municipality levies tourist tax quarterly.
- You will receive an invitation to file a tax return at the end of each quarter.
- On this declaration you enter the number of overnight stays.
- This number is then the basis for the assessment.
New entrepreneur?
The Tax Department cannot always keep up to date with the latest developments in the tourism industry. Are you a start-up entrepreneur with a hotel, guest house, campground or other tourist accommodation? If so, contact the Taxation team by calling 14 079.
Have you not received a tax return invitation 6 months after the end of the tax year? Then you are required to apply for an invitation. You must submit the request within 1 month after the expiration of the above deadline. This obligation also applies to entrepreneurs who have already sent a tax return to the Taxation team before.
Authorization for direct debit
Unfortunately, you cannot pay the tourist tax assessment by direct debit.
Objection
If you believe the assessment is incorrect, you can file an objection at MijnBelastingen.
The objection must be received by the municipality within 6 weeks from the date of the assessment.
You will receive a confirmation from us within 5 working days.
Make appointment to pay tourist tax at city hall
Tourist tax payment at City Hall is by appointment only.
Please note! At City Hall, you can only pay by debit card or cash.
Change or cancel appointment?
Once you have made an appointment you will receive a confirmation email. This e-mail also contains a link that allows you to change or cancel your appointment yourself.
Are you changing your appointment? Then don't forget to delete the other appointment!
Do you no longer have the e-mail? Then call 14 079. A staff member can change or cancel the appointment for you.
Cost
The fee is 7% over the overnight rate.
