Chapeau award ceremony Geeta Lachmon

A listening ear, a connecting link, a decisive doer, that is Geeta. Whether it is about welcoming new neighbors with flowers, writing a heartwarming card, or organizing meetings that really stir something up in the neighborhood. With attention and warmth and with unbridled dedication to her surroundings, it is more than justified that Geeta Lachmon received the Chapeau Medal on June 7, 2025 from district alderman Bouke Velzen on behalf of the college of Zoetermeer.

Geeta Lachmon is the face behind the Lief & Leedstraat of the Palestrinarode which was voted the sweetest street in Zoetermeer and that is no coincidence. With her warm commitment and personal approach, she really knows how to connect neighbors. Thanks to her, initiatives like Burendag become moments of real encounters.

But Geeta looks beyond her own street. She dedicates herself to the whole of Zoetermeer: from participation meetings and cleaning actions to improving traffic safety. Armed with a stick and ideas, she knows how to get people moving. From neighbors to policy makers.
