Frequently asked questions about getting married

Didn't find what you were looking for on our wedding page? Perhaps the answer to your question is in this overview of frequently asked questions.

What time do we need to be present for our wedding or registered partnership?

We ask that you arrive at least 15 minutes before the wedding starts.

It is important that you, the witnesses and your guests arrive on time. Are you late? The official can shorten the ceremony and/or limit it to the official part.

How long does a marriage ceremony or registered partnership take?

The ceremony lasts about 20 to 30 minutes.

Can we get married in a language other than Dutch?

If you ask in advance, the official part can also be done in English, German or French. This is not possible with a free or simple wedding.

Can we have music played in a wedding room in the City Hall?

Yes, that is possible.

There is a Bluetooth speaker in the Commission Room. This allows you to stream music with your own phone.

Tip: ask one of the guests to play the music.

For example, is it allowed to throw rice or release balloons at/in the City Hall?

No. You and your guests are not allowed to throw flower petals, confetti or rice at a wedding in and around the City Hall.

Tips

Greet the bridal couple upon arrival with, for example:

  • blowing bubbles
  • flags or ribbons

Release balloons

Releasing balloons is also not permitted.

Balloons become litter and are harmful to animals and the environment. Zoetermeer wants to prevent litter as much as possible. A released balloon is litter, but it cannot be traced who released the balloon. That is why a total ban is necessary.

Where can we park the wedding car on our wedding day?

You can park the wedding car for free for the first 2 hours in the parking garages. You can also park in the paid parking areas around the City Hall.
