Frequently asked questions about getting married

Didn't find what you were looking for on our wedding page? Maybe the answer to your question is in this list of frequently asked questions.

What time should we be present for our marriage or registered partnership?

We ask that you be present at least 15 minutes before the wedding begins.

It is important that you, the witnesses and your guests arrive on time. Are you arriving late? Then the officiant may shorten the ceremony and/or limit it to the official part.

How long does a marriage or registered partnership last?

The ceremony lasts about 20 to 30 minutes.

Can we marry in a language other than Dutch?

If you ask in advance, the official part can also be done in English, German or French. This is not possible at a free or simple wedding.

Can we have music played in a wedding hall at City Hall?

Yes, you can.

A Bluetooth speaker is available in the Commission Room. This allows you to stream music from your own phone.

Tip: ask one of the guests to play the music.

For example, may rice be sprinkled at/in the City Hall or balloons be released?

No. You and your guests may not sprinkle such things as flower petals, confetti or rice in and around City Hall at a wedding.

Tips

On arrival, greet the bride and groom with, for example:

  • blow bubbles
  • flags or ribbons

Launching balloons

Balloon launching is also not allowed.

Balloons become litter and are then harmful to animals and the environment. Zoetermeer wants to prevent litter as much as possible. A released balloon is litter, but it cannot be traced who released the balloon. That is why a total ban is necessary.

Where can we park the wedding car on our wedding day?

You can park the wedding car for free in the parking garages for the first 2 hours. You can also park in the paid parking areas around City Hall.
