Raid your mess: A great experience

On Saturday, July 19, Verloot je zooitje was launched in Zoetermeer. Alderman van der Meer gave the official starting signal by cutting a symbolic ribbon. This kicked off a social project aimed at keeping the neighborhood clean and making children (and parents) aware of litter.

Throughout the summer, children could take to the streets between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to collect and hand in litter. For every 100 grams they received a lottery ticket and a sticker. A full sticker sheet was good for a €5 VVV voucher. Kilos of litter were cleaned up from the streets!

Neighborhood Parents

We got help from neighborhood parents these weeks. Neighborhood mother Marleen tells how she experienced it:

"What a turnout! We saw so many enthusiastic children. Stories that touch: children who fanatically collected garbage to save for new shoes, families who went for a walk together and cleaned up because it is healthy - for people and animals. Residents who thanked us for the clean streets. In six weeks time, Verloot je zooitje was on display in several neighborhoods:

  • Meerzicht
  • Buytenwegh
  • Oosterheem
  • Driemanspolder
  • Palenstein
  • Seghwaert

At the locations, we were treated to coffee, soup and treats from local residents and local business owners. A special shout-out to Bunnik and Hoek, who - weather or no weather - came every day to pick up the collected garbage. And of course: a thunderous applause for all the supervisors at the sites, you are heroes. Every day you were ready with a smile to help children, have a chat and place stickers. Thanks also to sponsor Hoogvliet and to the municipality of Zoetermeer for allowing us to stand in six neighborhoods for six weeks".

Final party on Sept. 17 - don't miss it!

Verloot je zooitje will be festively concluded at the market in Zoetermeer with:

  • The award ceremony
  • Slushpuppy
  • Bungee jumping
  • And many more fun activities for young and old!

Everyone is welcome Sept. 17 between 2:00 - 5:00 p.m., even if you did not participate in the project.
