Did you know that you can have a green roof installed with a grant?
The municipality of Zoetermeer is making subsidies available for green roofs. Residents, businesses and foundations can receive up to a maximum of €3,000 in subsidies for installing a green roof on an existing building.
Why a green roof?
Green roofs retain rainwater and allow it to drain slowly. This helps prevent flooding. In addition, green roofs lower summer temperatures and provide a nicer living environment. They also contribute to more plants and animals in the city, making the city greener and more livable.
Alderman Marijke van der Meer: "Stimulating green roofs is part of a package of measures for good climate adaptation. For example, Zoetermeer is participating in the so-called NK Tegelwippen, the Tuinrangers are giving free garden advice and in the fall we are handing out free trees for private gardens."
Grant application
Tenants of a property may also qualify for the subsidy, provided the property owner agrees. Municipality of Zoetermeer by providing a subsidy for green roofs, hopes to encourage people to do something themselves to improve their living environment. Applying for the subsidy is not complicated. All the information is listed for you on the webpage Subsidy - Green Roofs Zoetermeer 2025-2027.
Resident Rob took advantage of the subsidy and had a beautiful green roof installed on the porch: `Our sedum roof looks beautiful. Every morning when we wake up and look outside, this roof puts a smile on our face. The colors keep changing very subtly and it looks like a bouquet of flowers but much bigger`.
