Zoetermeer is host city National Sports Week
From September 18 to 29, Zoetermeer will be all about sports and exercise during the National Sports Week. This year Zoetermeer, together with 4 other municipalities, has been officially designated as host city by NOC*NSF. This gives the National Sports Week an extra festive and grand character in Zoetermeer.
What is National Sports Week?
Together with municipalities, sports associations, sports clubs and schools, NOC*NSF organizes the National Sports Week. Sport plays a crucial role in people's personal development. It inspires, connects and shapes who you are, what you do and with whom you do it. During the National Sports Week, NOC*NSF wants as many people as possible to enjoy sports, in a way that suits them. Municipalities, associations, sports companies and sports clubs play a key role in this. They ensure that the National Sport Week also has local impact by getting residents to get moving. For sports week municipalities and host cities NOC*NSF offers a special program, so that together as many people as possible can enjoy sports. Ruben Beekmans, Project Leader Sports Promotion NOC*NSF: "Zoetermeer is one of the cities that has been active during the sports week for years. They know like no other what an impact this week full of sports and exercise has within the municipality. Through this intensive cooperation, the Sports Week in Zoetermeer gets even more of a boost."
'Sports give a boost'
With the title of host city, Zoetermeer will go big with a wide range of activities in which everyone can participate and discover new sports. This year, the National Sports Week carries the slogan "Sports give a boost!". The kickoff is given by the spectacular game 'Hunted', in which schoolchildren run, sneak and hide from police and enforcers, supported by helicopters and tracking dogs. There are also challenging events on the program, including an obstacle run, the inclusive "Everything on Wheels" for people who move around on roller skates or in wheelchairs, and defense resilience classes. For those over 55, there is the vibrant BRAVO! festival with exercise, workshops and health tests. During the Sports Festival, residents can try out free sports, including the wildly popular 3x3 basketball led by Olympic champion Arvin Slagter.
Well-known sports ambassadors add face to sports week
To give the National Sports Week more visibility, Zoetermeer is deploying 3 sports ambassadors: former hurdler and NOS analyst Gregory Sedoc, paralympic sprint champion Kimberly Alkemade and swimming talent Jolie Fransen. These top athletes each connect with the city in their own way and inspire others to get moving. They are the face of sports week in Zoetermeer and are present at various activities.
Zoetermeer on the move during National Sports Week
Zoetermeer shows during the National Sports Week that it is a true sports city. The municipality works together with sports clubs, schools and other partners to make sports and exercise visible in the city. In this way, Zoetermeer is committed to making sports possible for everyone, for young and old and in all neighborhoods. Whether someone just wants to start exercising or already does a lot of sport, there is always a place to be active. Alderman Ronald Weerwag (Sport): "I am enormously proud that Zoetermeer has been chosen to host the National Sport Week. Sport is so much more than just exercise, it connects people and provides fun. We invite everyone to join in and experience this special week together."
