May 4 poem 2024

Written by Jana Beranová and recited by Fiènne Tuynder.

For heaven's sake

My night is fragile
like a hummingbird butterfly

strange steps beside my bed
boots big as skyscrapers

'Tis lightning and banging and I stand again
on the street small alone

I run to the battlefield
to write a poem

Don't dig a hole
for fallen words

I let the trees
stapelverliefd rustle

the mountains meet again

and not to be a child
that can never sleep again

I give lands feet
to share happiness with us

For peace I plant
a hollyhock a real

with a straight back
