Custom homes
Zoetermeer has a number of wheelchair and barrier-free homes or homes with adaptations. All these homes belong to the category 'adapted homes'. They are suitable for people who, due to a disability, are dependent on a home in which - with a view to that disability - specific facilities have been installed.
Since different medical situations require different adjustments, the Wmo department of the municipality of Zoetermeer helps determine how a request for assistance should be answered. For example, they assess whether a request for assistance leads to a placement on the mediation list for a wheelchair home. This method ensures an optimal distribution of the (scarce) homes and attempts to find a suitable solution for each request for assistance. If you want to submit a notification for a request for assistance, you can do so using the Wmo notification form. The Wmo department will contact you on this. After investigation, the department will then issue a recommendation.
If you are advised to live in a ground-floor or rollator home, you can look for such a home yourself via Woonnet Haaglanden. You must always take into account a waiting period before a suitable home becomes available. Is your living situation life-threatening or life-disrupting? Then you can apply for a priority declaration from the Toetsingscommissie Voorrangsverklaringen Zoetermeer (TVZ). The municipality has developed an online questionnaire with which you can test to what extent you seem to be eligible for a priority declaration. You can find this questionnaire here. With the priority declaration, you have priority over other home seekers on Woonnet Haaglanden for 3 months. In order to be able to obtain a priority declaration for an adapted home, you need a Wmo advice for this type of home from the. Without this advice, the TVZ cannot give you a priority declaration for a suitable home.
If you are advised to live in a wheelchair home, you are eligible for mediation. The municipality of Zoetermeer works together with the housing corporations Stedelink (formerly Vestia), Vidomes and De Goede Woning in the distribution of these homes. If a wheelchair home becomes available, the housing corporation reports this to the municipality. The municipality indicates who are suitable candidates for the available wheelchair home. The housing corporation invites you for a viewing via Woonnet Haaglanden, for which you must be registered. You cannot apply for a priority declaration for a wheelchair home (this is also not necessary).
It may also be possible to adapt your current home to your physical limitations. When the municipality arranges or reimburses a home adaptation for you, this is also called a 'housing facility'. The municipality of Zoetermeer only reimburses the cheapest solution. If the municipality decides that you are eligible for reimbursement, there are two options: care in kind or a personal budget. With care in kind, the municipality arranges the adaptation for you. Some housing facilities (for example the stair lift) are provided on loan.
