Central park construction agreement signed
Alderman Jan Iedema and Ad Wijnhout, director of AW Infrabouw, signed the agreement for work on the central park on Monday, Oct. 14. Immediately after this, Jan Iedema removed the first shovel of dredge with a crane. This took place at the head of the Marseillepad. With this, the work on the central park has officially begun.
Alderman Iedema: "The central park is one of the most special places in the center of Zoetermeer. Its location between the old village and the new Stadshart offers everything needed for a beautiful and connecting park. The metamorphosis will ensure that the park becomes a beautiful green place where people can meet and where there is something for everyone to experience: from quiet meetings around the water and in the greenery to festive conviviality."
At the Dobbeplas there will be 4 new islands: 3 play islands and a nature island. Along the banks of the Grote Dobbe there will be a boardwalk. Visitors will soon be able to walk all the way around the lake via this deck. The project will create a more sustainable and accessible city center, which fits in with the vision of the municipality of Zoetermeer to make the living environment greener and more beautiful.
The new central park will feature amenities for young and old, including play equipment for children and sports facilities for all ages. Thanks to its central location and good connections via bicycle and walking paths, the park will be a meeting place for the entire city. The new central park is expected to be ready in early 2026.
