Gable stones with municipal coats of arms of Zegwaart and Zoetermeer
At the suggestion of the Historical Society of Old Soetermeer (HGOS), 2 monumental gable stones were placed in the museum garden. The gable stones depict the coats of arms of the two municipalities from which Zoetermeer was formed in 1935: Zoetermeer and Zegwaart.
Gable of Zoetermeer
In the front yard of 't Oude Huis since about 1990.
The Zoetermeer stone dates from 1956 and is from the Zoetermeer Town Hall at Dorpsstraat 10. Although the municipal coat of arms was officially changed to the 3 straight stems design as early as 1936, this design with the 3 curved stems was still used until the 1950s.
Gable of Zegwaart
In the front yard of 't Oude Huis since about 1989.
The Zegwaart stone dates from 1915 and comes from the Zegwaart Town Hall at Dorpsstraat 92. The building was demolished in 1970. Zegwaart was a municipality that merged into the municipality of Zoetermeer in 1935. We still know the name today as a district of the town, but spelled differently: Seghwaert.
