Sculpture garden behind Dorpsstraat 7

Behind Dorpsstraat 7 is a sculpture garden with 5 different works of art. You can visit the garden every Sunday from 12:00 to 16:00. On other days the garden is closed to the public.

The sculpture garden is located in the park-like backyard of the national monument 't Oude Huis from 1872. For the Open Monument Day 1990, 6 works of art were specially designed for the garden as a permanent exhibition. The theme of this Open Monument Day was 'Recognizing architectural styles'. The assignment for the artists was to design a sculpture that fits the theme 'monument'.

Gable stones with municipal coats of arms of Zegwaart and Zoetermeer

At the suggestion of the Historical Society Oud Soetermeer (HGOS), 2 monumental facade stones were placed in the museum garden. The facade stones show the municipal coats of arms of the 2 cores from which Zoetermeer was founded in 1935: Zoetermeer and Zegwaart.

Facade stone from Zoetermeer

Facade stone Zoetermeer-Zegwaart

In the front garden of 't Oude Huis since about 1990.

The stone of Zoetermeer dates from 1956 and comes from the town hall of Zoetermeer Dorpsstraat 10. Although the municipal coat of arms was officially changed to the design with 3 straight stems in 1936, this design with the 3 curved stems was still used until the 1950s.

Gable stone of Zegwaart

In the front garden of 't Oude Huis since about 1989.

The Zegwaart stone dates from 1915 and comes from the Zegwaart town hall on Dorpsstraat 92. The building was demolished in 1970. Zegwaart was a municipality that merged into the municipality of Zoetermeer in 1935. We still know the name as a district of the city, but spelled differently: Seghwaert.
