Waiver

Do you have low income or little assets (money and property)? Are you unable to pay your taxes? Then apply for remission. If you are entitled to remission, you do not have to pay the tax or part of it.

You can only apply for relief for your private assessments that are in your name for your residential address (not for your business assessments). These are the assessments for garbage collection, sewerage collection and/or property tax owned by your home.

What you need to know

You will not receive a waiver if:

  • You have a car worth more than €3,350. A car with a higher current value is only allowed if the car is necessary because of illness, disability or work. You can look up the daily value of your car on Autotelex
  • You own two or more motor vehicles. The value of your second motor vehicle is considered property. If the value of your second motor vehicle exceeds your tax assessment, you will not receive a remission.
  • You own your own home and there is excess value. There is always a surplus value if the current WOZ value of your home is higher than your current mortgage debt. The WOZ value of your home can be found on your municipal tax assessment notice.
  • You paid the assessment more than 3 months ago.
  • You have previously applied for a waiver of the same assessment.

Automatic remission?

If you have been granted relief, it is possible that you will automatically be granted relief the following year. To do this, we check your details with the Tax and Customs Administration, benefits agency UWV and the National Road Administration (RDW). Your assessment will then state that you are entitled to relief. You do not have to do anything else.

You had automatic remission last year and not now?

Again, apply for remission yourself. This is not automatic.
