Residents and artist meet
On Thursday, Feb. 20, a neighborhood cup of coffee was held for neighborhood residents and interested parties. This took place exactly at the spot along the Singel, where after the summer the artwork 'The Column of Palenstein' with the subtitle 'One More Cup of Coffee for the Road', will be placed. During this meeting, residents were shown the new design and the artwork was explained by architect Jan Willem Terlouw. He designed 'The Column of Palenstein' together with the recently deceased artist Q.S. Serafijn.
Entirely in the style of the artwork, coffee was served. "Coffee is a unifying element in all cultures. Drinking coffee together brings people together, and that is precisely why this artwork fits so well in this neighborhood, where so many cultures come together," Jan Willem said. The artwork will be a landmark for Palenstein and is clearly visible from all directions. Neighborhood alderman Ronald Weerwag and residents from the Art Palenstein project group were also present at the neighborhood bake sale.
