Residents choose paving on new square in Palenstein

Neighborhood residents of Palenstein were able to contribute ideas about the paving on the new square in their neighborhood. Almost 200 people voted for one of the 3 patterns for the paving. The flower pattern received the most votes and will be placed on the square. These results can be read in the final report, which the board of mayor and aldermen recently adopted. This concludes the participation for the new square. The square will be located at the Rakkersveld, near the shopping center and the Castellum Palenstein. According to the current planning, the square will be completed in 2026.

Completion of Palenstein renewal draws near

The arrival of the new square will soon mark the end of years of renewal of the Palenstein neighborhood. The renewal started in 2012. Since then, large gallery flats have been demolished and new houses and apartments have been built in their place. Houses have also been made more sustainable and flats renovated, a canal has been created and residents can walk through Palenstein Park. The old shopping center has been demolished and the new one has been in use for some time.

Upcoming period

Before the end of the renewal is in sight, a lot of things are still happening. Currently, housing is being built on the site of the old shopping center at Croesinckplein. Completion is at the end of next year. There will also be a playground in this neighborhood. For this we will ask the residents to think about the design. In the existing part of Palenstein, a number of improvements will be made early next year on Lodensteinstraat. Residents will receive a letter about the start and temporary consequences of the work.

New artwork

The neighborhood will also be brightened up with a new work of art in the coming period. Next summer, the new artwork "One more cup of coffee for the road" will be placed near the Singel. The artwork is by artist Q.S. Serafijn, in collaboration with architect Jan Willem Terlouw. The artwork will be a landmark and meeting place in one. Inspired by the worldly custom of drinking coffee together every day. Curious about what the artwork will look like?
