Better reach residents with help needs

There is a perception that support on disposable income is the solution to the poverty problem. But even more important is to prevent residents from getting into trouble and to make their experience central.

"The collection of stories with residents' experiences is a powerful call to the municipality to further improve its policy and services in which residents are central," said Alderman Bouke Velzen. "That is the starting point and only then will it be followed by thinking together about the right solution to the problem or request for help." Studies also show the importance of communicating better with residents who need help.

Range

Ensuring that residents know how to find their way if they run into trouble and know how to make use of the schemes available to them so they can make ends meet.

Concept

Good listening with understanding and empathy are crucial to this. To the whole story and not just a piece of it. Without judgment, without immediately coming up with a solution that is already on the shelf.

Prevention

Helping people in a timely manner to prevent problems from becoming more acute and debts from piling up.
