Are you receiving benefits and going on vacation? You must report this to the municipality 2 weeks before you go on vacation. The municipality checks that your departure will not affect your job search or education. You will receive a letter with or without permission to go on vacation.

How often and for how long can you take a vacation?

You may go on vacation several times a year. How long you may vacation depends on your age:

  • Are you younger than the State pension age than you are allowed a total of 4 weeks of vacation per year.
    • Even if you have no duty to work, you may go abroad for up to 4 weeks.
    • The 4-week stay abroad applies per calendar year (from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31).
  • If you are of AOW age or older, you are allowed a total of 13 weeks of vacation per year.
  • You may not take the number of vacations for 2 years in a row in December and January so that the stay exceeds 4 weeks.
  • Are you going on a longer vacation? Then your benefits stop on the 1st day you go over the maximum number of days.

What should you do?
