On November 18, the time had come: the presentation of the Zoetermeer Innovation Award 2024. During the festive ceremony in Stadstheater Zoetermeer, all nominated companies were present. Ultimately three companies competed for the coveted grand prize. After an exciting final BubbleFlush took home the Innovation Award! With BubbleFlush toilets are effectively cleaned by means of imploding bubbles. Without polluting cleaning agents!

Dennis Luiten and Hidde Reitsma of BubbleFlush told how they started with this innovative product: "We were irritated by the many chemicals used when cleaning a toilet. Our product solves many things. In the Netherlands and the world where clean water and the environment are becoming bigger and bigger challenges, we offer the solution that acutely prevents the discharge of millions of gallons of chemicals. We are changing the world with BubbleFlush and are proud to be recognized with this award."

The race for the Innovation Award

Companies Merlin, Heliobit and BubbleFlush were in the race to be named Zoetermeer's most innovative company. They submitted their innovations at the start of the competition, after which an expert jury, chaired by alderman Jan Iedema (economy), judged them on the basis of originality and impact. With the most important condition: the companies are actively engaged in innovation and renewal within their industry. The public could also vote for their favorite innovation. In total, almost 2,200 people cast their vote.

Iedema is proud of the business community in Zoetermeer: "The search for the most innovative company shows us the pearls of the city. Because of the competition element, we are in a position to select a good ambassador from that to be given extra spotlight."

Innovation through imploding bubbles

BubbleFlush is the world's first active toilet cleaning system without the use of environmentally harmful cleaning agents. Merlin came in second with the development of CrisisSuite: a software for supporting organizations before, during and after a crisis. Heliobit won the third prize with the development of the Mantelzorger App. The public also had a favorite: De Zoetermeerse Brouwerij, which brews the beer brand ROEM. Winner BubbleFlush wins a media check worth €5,000 and a one-year membership to both Netwerk Zoetermeer and the Dutch Innovation Community. Each finalist will also receive a professional company video as a gift. And last but not least, all finalists will go home with a specially designed award.

Zoetermeer is the place!

Zoetermeer is home to numerous innovative companies that contribute to innovation and economic growth in the region. This results in a lot of cooperation and learning from each other. Municipality of Zoetermeer has created the Innovation Award as a token of appreciation for the companies that are working on innovation, but also to inspire other companies to start innovating. It does this in collaboration with Netwerk Zoetermeer, Economic Board Zoetermeer and Dutch Innovation Community, among others.
