Colin Knoester elected new Zoetermeer city poet
During an inspiring evening in CKC & Partners, Colin Knoester was elected the new City Poet of Zoetermeer. With an impressive reading, he managed to convince the jury and thus takes over from Robbert Roos.
The election evening was filled with beautiful readings from 10 candidates, each of whom shared their unique vision of word art and Zoetermeer. The professional jury, consisting of alderman for Culture Wim Blansjaar, alderman for City Marketing Jan Iedema, current city poet Robbert Roos and director of the Zoetermeer Library Marloes Middeldorp, ultimately chose Colin because of his beautifully recited poem "New Day" - which he wrote on a bench near the Heemkanaal - and his positive view of the city.
New voice for Zoetermeer
As City Poet for the next 4 years, Colin will act as Zoetermeer's word artist to capture special moments in the city in words. Several times a year he displays his word art on behalf of the municipality at events and other special occasions. Colin is looking forward to playing a connecting and inspiring role and bringing residents closer together with his word art.
"I am excited to start working as City Poet of Zoetermeer in the coming years. I think I can add a fresh perspective and a new sauce. I am looking forward to writing about Zoetermeer themes and of course also to represent Zoetermeer," said Colin.
Colin's poem:
New Day
Go to sleep with the burden of my own world on my shoulders.
Wake up, be happy.
Because I get another chance at this slot machine.
Probably still no prize.
Even though I want it so badly, it all just doesn't work out.
But that's the beauty of it.
I get a present.
I get to try again tomorrow.
One more spin on that slot machine.
And if I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel.
I can go to a new tunnel tomorrow.
I'm so happy to get that gift of tomorrow.
Because tomorrow is another day.
Tomorrow is your day!
