Culture is of great value to society, for young and old. It is indispensable for the attractiveness and identity of Zoetermeer. Culture enriches your life and gives you space to discover hidden talents and interests. By participating in cultural activities you meet other people. But above all, experiencing culture or making it yourself ensures that you relax and have fun.

Zoetermeer’s heritage to be showcased at the City Hall Forum

Alderman Jan Iedema will open the new heritage display cases at City Hall Forum on Tuesday, June 9, at 3:30 p.m. Display cases will be installed on the ground floor of the City Hall Forum to showcase Zoetermeer’s heritage and history to residents and visitors. The display cases will feature objects related to themes connected to Zoetermeer, such as industry, growth, modernization, governance, the history of butter and dairy, and the Floriade.

In December 2024, the city council adopted the motion titled “Making Zoetermeer’s Heritage Visible Quickly.” With this motion, the council asked the executive board to display Zoetermeer’s heritage at a public and well-visited location in anticipation of the future Heritage House.

The new display cases complement the existing art display case in the City Hall Forum. By showcasing heritage in this way, the city aims to foster an open and welcoming atmosphere at City Hall Forum, raise awareness of Zoetermeer’s identity and history, and make more attractive use of the public space in the City Hall Forum.

Zoetermeer is working towards a vibrant arts and culture sector. With the Cultural Vision 2030 'The city lives, live the city' we want to give direction to this. Together with the arts and culture sector, an implementation agenda has been drawn up for the Cultural Vision 2030. It was evaluated with the field at the end of 2024 and a meeting was held on January 29, 2025 to update the agenda. The updated Implementation Agenda Cultural Vision 2025-2030 was adopted by the City Council on June 2, 2025.

Art in public space

Visual art gives colour and character to the city. It creates meeting places, striking places that everyone knows and recognises. A work of art that is specially made for a place tells a story, makes passers-by think and makes people feel at home.
