Cybersecurity for the elderly
Phishing, fake emails, dating fraud and whatsapp fraud: digital scams are becoming increasingly common. Elderly people are a vulnerable group. The municipality of Zoetermeer finds it important that all residents can use the internet safely. The municipality is committed to ensuring that as many senior citizens in the city as possible have access to the information they need to be safe online.
Information afternoons
The municipality is organizing a number of information afternoons for the elderly (60+). During the afternoon they watch the interactive film "Real or Fake?" together. Based on this film, the discussion leader of the municipality will discuss with the participants what they would do in various suspicious situations on the Internet. Thus, they learn in a practical way to recognize digital scams, such as whatsapp fraud and phishing messages. They also learn how to safely handle online banking and the use of their personal data on the Internet. Meanwhile, 2 meetings have taken place: on October 23 in Meerzicht and on November 8 in Rokkeveen. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, December 11, in the Noordhove-Seghwaert neighborhood.
