At the top of the municipality is the municipal council. The municipal council makes the important decisions for the municipality. The municipal council gets help from the registry. The registry supports the council and provides advice in its work.

Directly below the city council is the board of mayor and aldermen, which is often abbreviated as B and W. The mayor leads the municipality and chairs the college. Together with the aldermen, the mayor ensures that the municipality is well run and that all plans are carried out.

Under the board of mayor and aldermen works the city clerk. The town clerk supports the college and ensures that the civil service organization functions smoothly. The town clerk leads 3 main groups within the municipality. The first group is internal and external services. This group ensures that the municipal organization works well and that residents get the right information and help. The second group is the social domain. The social domain regulates everything to do with people, such as care, support, work, youth and welfare. The third group is the physical domain. The physical domain takes care of buildings, roads, greenery and other physical things in the municipality.
