Directly Clear is a government approach that helps organizations, such as a municipality, for example, use clear language. So that everyone understands it too.

In Zoetermeer, we have already taken steps in recent years. Letters have been rewritten. We are checking whether the texts on our website are clear. We make sentences shorter and use pictures, photos or drawings more often.

We are also looking at how to address every resident with respect. That's why we signed the Directly Clear deal. With this we say that we will continue to work on this. Together with our residents.

"As a municipality, we sometimes get the complaint that our texts are unclear and difficult. This causes residents to not always understand us, or not know what to do. We also don't want to exclude anyone. So improvement is needed," says municipal secretary André Huykman. The Directly Clear deal is an extra reason to continue working on this. The mayor certainly agrees: "We are there for our residents, so it is important that they understand what we write.
