'World War II in color' exhibition brings history to life
What would World War II have looked like in color? The exhibit "World War II in Color" brings history to life with impressive colorized images. By coloring black-and-white photographs of the war, the past comes closer than ever.
The exhibition, on display at Stadhuisplein 22 in Zoetermeer from March 29 through April 11, 2025, not only displays international images, but also unique wartime photographs in Zoetermeer. These historical photographs have been made available by the Historical Society of Oud Soetermeer (HGOS). In addition, a short film about the Holocaust will be shown on a large screen, highlighting events and personal stories from this period.
New perspective
The exhibition was developed by Jakob Lagerweij, a specialist in coloring historical photographs. While black and white images mainly show the bleakness of the war, the colored photographs give a new perspective and make the impact of the war even more tangible.
