Festive St. Nicholas celebration in shopping center De Leyens

On November 30, the De Leyens neighborhood was all about the annual Sinterklaas party. Sinterklaas and his pieten not only visited the shopping center, but residents were able to have a conversation with the neighborhood alderman Ronald Weerwag, the neighborhood director and the neighborhood police officer during this so-called neighborhood bakkie.

An entertaining program

Visitors enjoyed the festive atmosphere, thanks in part to the hot chocolate, pea soup, frankfurters and sprinkles offered by the shopkeepers. A highlight of the day was the awards ceremony of the coloring contest, where the winning children received a gift from the hands of St. Nicholas and his helpers.

In addition, 3 neighborhood residents were put in the limelight. Diane, Majanka and Martine received flowers from the hands of Alderman Weerwag in appreciation for their commitment to a clean and livable neighborhood. These concerned residents, nominated by the neighborhood police, work daily to keep the Inner Park, the Gondelkade and the shopping center clean.

Working together in the neighborhood

The Sinterklaas party is a joint initiative of shopkeepers, the municipality, gro-up neighborhood work and members of the neighborhood team. Alderman Ronald Weerwag emphasized the importance of this cooperation: "This Sinterklaas party is a wonderful example of how shopkeepers, residents, municipality and neighborhood organizations together create something special. Cooperation is the key to a strong and vibrant neighborhood."

Look Ahead: Christmas Celebration

The festive atmosphere continues at the De Leyens shopping center. On Saturday, December 21, a Christmas celebration will take place there between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm. All residents are welcome to attend this cozy afternoon.
