If you need to prove that your signature on a document is really yours, you can have your signature legalized. You can arrange this with the municipality. The municipality will then certify that the signature is genuine.

Legalizing a signature is often required:

  • On documents to be sent abroad.
  • If you give your consent to something, for example, if you are a guarantor for family or friends from abroad.
  • If you want to settle an inheritance abroad.

The signature must be made in person in the presence of a Public Square employee. You can do this in any municipality.

What should you do?

  • You must come in person with the document on which you are going to sign.
  • You must put your signature on the document in the presence of the official.
  • The official compares it to the signature on your ID.
  • By legalization, the municipality certifies that it is your signature.
