Dogs, rules and taxes
Here you will find the rules and space for dogs in Zoetermeer based on the General Local Bye-Law (APV), article 2.41, 2.42 and 2.43.
Rules
It is mandatory to have your dog chipped and registered through www.rvo.nl | Dog Identification and Registration.
Your dog must be on a leash within the built-up area and recreational areas Buytenpark, Noordelijk Plassengebied, Nieuwe Driemanspolder and Westerpark. Dogs are allowed to run off-leash there in designated (temporary) off-leash areas, off-leash fields and dog beach/water area. During the breeding season from March 15 to July 15, dogs must be leashed in more places. Look for these places on the Dog Map. Children's playgrounds, sandboxes and playing fields are always off limits to dogs. Dogs are not allowed in areas of sensitive nature. Dog waste must be cleaned up immediately, for this you must carry poop bags or something else.

Dog tax
Dog owners in Zoetermeer will no longer have to pay dog tax as of Jan. 1, 2024.
Nuisance
If you are experiencing nuisance from dogs, file a Notification of Living Environment (public space).
Please note that assistance dogs with special duties for the disabled and blind or visually impaired are not required to be on a leash. Also, the poop of these dogs does not have to be cleaned up. The municipality does not clean up dog poop. Enforcement officers make sure that everyone obeys the walking rules.
