Royal decoration for Ed Boutkan

For his years of dedication to making art and culture in Zoetermeer accessible, Ed Boutkan was today appointed Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau. Mayor Michel Bezuijen presented this special royal honor on behalf of His Majesty the King during a gathering at Kunstgarage Franx, where Boutkan took his leave as director.

Mr. Boutkan has worked tirelessly for art and culture in Zoetermeer for more than 30 years. He stood at the cradle of numerous initiatives that made art visible and accessible. In 1994 he founded Vereniging Terra Kunstprojecten, bringing artists together and realizing projects that gave color to the city. One of the most high-profile projects was 'De Allerlangste', with a painted wedding drag of almost 2.5 kilometers, a world record.

The power behind art garage Franx

Thanks to his vision and perseverance, Kunstgarage Franx, a vibrant meeting place for art and culture, was born in Zoetermeer. Under his leadership, Franx grew into a platform with leading exhibitions, educational projects and initiatives that placed art in the middle of society.

Also active for volunteer work

In addition to his work for Franx, Boutkan has also been committed to volunteer organization Zoetermeer voor Elkaar since 2020, where he uses his connecting power and innovative ideas to strengthen volunteerism.

Mayor Michel Bezuijen: "With his unbridled dedication and vision, Ed Boutkan has given art and culture in Zoetermeer an enormous boost. He knew how to connect people and realize projects that give color and meaning to our city. This award is a well-deserved recognition for everything he has meant for Zoetermeer."
