Mrs. Germaine Wiewel-Goemans has been appointed Member in the Order of Orange-Nassau for her many years of service as a volunteer at the Terre des Hommes store in Zoetermeer. She received the royal decoration from the hands of Mayor Michel Bezuijen during the festive celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Terre des Hommes store on Hannie Schaftrode in Zoetermeer.

Even before the official opening on September 28, 1985, Mrs. Wiewel-Goemans dedicated herself to establishing the Terre des Hommes store in Zoetermeer. Since then, she has been present every Friday morning to sell, take in, sort and give a second life to second-hand items and thereby support the charities of Terre des Hommes. With more than 8,000 hours of volunteer work over the past 40 years, she has made an impressive contribution to the mission of Terre des Hommes: to fight child exploitation worldwide.

Mayor Michel Bezuijen: "Mrs. Wiewel-Goemans is a quiet force with a big heart. Her years of voluntary service are admirable and invaluable. Thanks to people like her, organizations like Terre des Hommes can continue to do their important work."

The presentation took place in the store at Hannie Schaftrode in Zoetermeer, where on this day the 40th anniversary of Terre des Hommes in Zoetermeer was also celebrated. During this festive occasion, the mayor expressed his great appreciation for the years of dedication of the volunteers and the social significance of the store. As a token of that appreciation, he presented, on behalf of the City Council, the Municipal Medal of Honor of Zoetermeer to Terre des Hommes Zoetermeer. A special recognition for 4 decades of local commitment with global impact.
