About the night bus
The night bus runs at night on weekends between Leiden Central Station and Zoetermeer Centrum-West, via Zoeterwoude and Stompwijk. This means you can also get around at night on weekends. A security guard travels on every bus journey.
Starting December 14, 2025, the N40 night bus between Zoetermeer and Leiden will have a new operator: Qbuzz. The line will be operated with electric buses.
Timetable
- Runs on Friday night/Saturday morning and Saturday night/Sunday morning
- You can find current departure times in the 9292 app and NS app.
Rates and payment
- The fare for a single journey is the standard public transport fare.
- From December 14, 2025, you will be able to pay with your OV-chipkaart, student OV-pas, or bank card with OV-pay, just like on regular buses.
Want to travel further?
At Leiden Centraal, you can transfer to a night train to The Hague or Amsterdam. To be sure, always check the NS timetable before your train journey.
