The new Energy Act will come into force on January 1, 2026. This act gives residents and local businesses more control over their own energy.

Energy communities are officially recognized as full-fledged players in the energy market, with clear rules and new opportunities for cooperation, investment, and local ownership.

What does this mean in concrete terms?

  • Greater influence of residents and entrepreneurs on local energy projects
  • Democratic decision-making with equal voting rights
  • New opportunities to invest together in sustainable energy
  • A clear role for the municipality, for example in the heat transition
  • Benefits for local energy initiatives

During this Energy Café, the Zoetermeer Sustainable Energy Cooperative (DEZo) will explain the role it wants to play and how homeowners, tenants, and businesses can actively participate.
