New artwork in Palenstein: One more cup of coffee for the road

In the summer of 2025, a new work of art will come to the Singel: One more cup of coffee for the road. This artwork was created by artist Q.S. Serafijn in collaboration with architect Jan Willem Terlouw. The artwork will also be a meeting place and is inspired by drinking coffee together every day.

The artwork consists of a large coffee pot and a pedestal with a bench seat. The coffee pot, an Italian percolator, is made of shiny metal and reflects the sky and surrounding buildings in Palenstein. The pedestal is made of durable wood. The coffee pot symbolizes the cultural and social customs surrounding different coffee cultures.

Project Group

A project group with residents chose the design by S.Q. Serafijn and Jan Willem Terlouw from dozens of different submissions. Four artists were allowed to present their proposal to the project group. The artwork of the coffee pot appealed most to the project group.

S.Q. Seraphine

During the commission to create the idea, artist Q.S. Serafijn passed away on June 1, 2024. Jan Willem Terlouw, in collaboration with Q.S. Serafijn's next of kin, will continue the development of the design and execution.
