Signing of purchase agreement for Villa Eigenwijze

The municipality of Zoetermeer and housing association De Goede Woning have signed the purchase agreement for the land on which Villa Eigenwijze in Edisonpark will be built. This marks an important step towards the creation of a small-scale residential facility for young adults with intellectual disabilities and/or autism in the new Edisonpark neighborhood. The Villa Eigenwijze Foundation is the initiator of this plan.

Villa Eigenwijze

Villa Eigenwijze is a small-scale residential initiative with 16 apartments, intended for young adults with intellectual disabilities and/or autism. In addition to the apartments, the facility offers communal living areas and aims to create a living environment that combines independence, privacy, and social connection.

Alderman Ronald Weerwag (Housing): "By embracing this initiative, we are opting for a high-quality form of housing that combines independence, privacy, and social connectedness—exactly what Villa Eigenwijze offers these young adults."

Edison Park

Edisonpark is a new residential area to be developed in Zoetermeer with approximately 550 homes for various target groups, ranging from social housing to owner-occupied and care homes, in a green and park-like area. Villa Eigenwijze is part of this plan and contributes to the housing supply for people with care needs within a regular living environment. Construction is expected to start in the second quarter of 2026.

"We are delighted that this unique form of housing allows us to offer these residents a pleasant and suitable home and living environment," says Mariëtte Heemskerk, director of De Goede Woning.

Vision and social value

The Villa Eigenwijze Foundation wants residents to grow up at their own pace, with space for their own lives and shared moments. Care and support are separate from the rental.

Karin Bakkers, chair of the Villa Eigenwijze Foundation: "Villa Eigenwijze is a warm, safe, and cozy home offering loving guidance and 24-hour care for our young adult children, where they can live as much like at home as possible, with personal attention to a healthy, active, and social life."
