Working together more robustly for Duin Horst & Weide

Fourteen parties signed the cooperation agreement Landscape Table Dune, Horst & Meadow and the 2024-2028 Implementation Program. In doing so, they declared their intention to jointly protect and strengthen the rural area that runs from the coast and dunes near Wassenaar (Dune), via the landgoederenzone (Horst) to the Vlietzone and the peat meadow area near Stompwijk and Zoetermeer (Meadow).

Chairman of Landschapstafel Duin Horst & Weide, Marcel Belt: "There are all kinds of challenges in terms of nitrogen, water quality improvement, nature restoration, climate adaptation and a sustainable future for farmers. Urbanization is also increasing the need for recreational and natural areas. For the parties involved, these are reasons to work more firmly together for nature, recreation and sustainable agriculture in the unique area of Duin Horst & Weide."

"Alone you go faster, together you get further" is the slogan of the 2024-2028 Implementation Program. Cooperation is important for the realization of projects and the achievement of joint goals in the areas of recreation, nature and landscape strengthening. The projects in the Implementation Program focus on a healthy, vital landscape; an authentic landscape and an experienceable landscape. Vital by strengthening nature, connecting areas, improving biodiversity and water quality and taking into account climate change and preserving clean drinking water. Authentic by preserving typical features of dunes, horsts and the peat meadow area and stimulating and facilitating new forms of agriculture that are better for the environment and water quality. Experiential, by being able to enjoy nature while protecting vulnerable nature.

Collaboration at the Landscape Table

Six municipalities (Leidschendam-Voorburg, Leiden, Wassenaar, The Hague, Voorschoten and Zoetermeer) and parties such as Stichting Duivenvoorde, Staatsbosbeheer, Dunea, Erfgoedhuis Zuid-Holland and ANWB work together on the Duin Horst & Weide Landscape Table. The chair is the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg.

National Park Dutch Dunes

Duin Horst & Weide is the most prominent subarea of National Park Hollandse Duinen (NPHD) that covers the wide South Holland coastal area from Hoek van Holland to Hillegom. This unique area has three types of landscapes: the dunes along the coast at Scheveningen-Wassenaar-Katwijk, the horsts between Wassenaar and Voorschoten and the meadow between Leidschendam-Voorburg and Zoetermeer. In the area are icons such as nature reserve Meijendel, Castle Duivenvoorde, Nieuwe Driemanspolder, Vogelplas Starrevaart and Molendriegang near Stompwijk. Its tranquility, space, biodiversity, villages, cities, work and culture make the area valuable for plants, animals and people. More than 60 area partners are committed to the future of the area. Together they realize a sustainable and resilient national park.
