Social housing, declaration of urgency

Do you urgently need other housing? In some cases, you can apply for an urgency declaration (also known as a priority declaration). With this declaration, you can respond to social housing with priority over other home seekers.

What you need to know

If you receive an urgent declaration, others will take longer to find a home. You can apply for an urgent declaration if your living situation is medically or socially disruptive/life-threatening. 

How do you apply for an urgent declaration?

You follow the steps below:

  1. First check whether you can apply for an urgent declaration. To do so, first fill in the Urgency Guide from Woningnet in. Woningnet is the organization that handles urgent requests on behalf of the municipality.
     
  2. Schedule a 'chance advice meeting' with Woningnet. During this meeting you will receive free advice about the chance that an urgency will be given. You will also receive advice about the procedure and the documents that you need to submit. 
     
  3. After the interview, you can submit a final request for urgency. You will pay costs for processing your request. You must always pay these costs, even if the urgency is rejected. 

Always request an urgency declaration yourself!

There are organizations active on the internet that offer to arrange the declaration of urgency for you. Do not do this! An application takes just as long this way, but you do pay extra for it.

How long will it take?

  • If your application is complete, it will be forwarded to the 'Assessment Committee for Urgent Declarations Zoetermeer'.
  • The assessment committee meets once every two weeks.
  • The assessment committee will review the application and advise whether or not to grant an urgency declaration.
  • Within 8 weeks you will receive a message stating whether you will be given urgency or not. Are you requesting urgency on medical grounds? Then you may need to make an appointment with a doctor. 
  • If the urgency is granted, you can contact Woonnet Haaglanden respond with priority to the housing types for which you have been given urgency. By default, an apartment with/without elevator and a porch house are assigned in the search profile. 
  • An urgency is valid for 3 months.
