Stadstheater and De Veur more accessible
Stadstheater Zoetermeer and swimming pool De Veur are more accessible for the disabled. This marks the beginning of improving the accessibility of over 100 municipal buildings. Forty buildings are planned for 2025.
Councilwoman Marijke van der Meer took a look at the foyer and the so-called miva-toilet of the Stadstheater and was pleased to see how the elevation in the foyer has been made level: "A huge improvement with which the theater will appeal to an important target group," she discussed with Stadstheater director Charles Droste. The biggest adjustments at the Stadstheater include modifying the miva toilet, making the seats accessible for intermission, and an elevator will be installed near the stage in 2025.
At swimming pool De Veur, during major maintenance, the existing miva toilets were adapted to the Zoetermeer standard. In addition, a miva changing room with toilet, shower and changing facilities has been created and the general changing rooms have been adapted. In 2025, major maintenance will also be carried out in the sports area, and accessibility will also be addressed.
The list of 40 buildings to follow this year includes 5 sports halls, 7 other sports facilities, cultural real estate, neighborhood meeting spaces and the city farms. With the completion of swimming pool De Watergeus, an inventory of some areas for improvement was drawn up. This will be coordinated with the Physical Accessibility Council in the near future.
High standard
In March 2019, a council resolution established the higher standard of accessibility for existing municipal properties. The accessibility of all properties to be adapted was assessed by an expert. Based on this assessment, a prioritization was established. This included consideration of future plans for the properties.
