Status of tree requests pruning, replacing or adding and preview fall action

Since August 1, residents of Zoetermeer can submit a request to prune, replace or add trees in their neighborhood that fall under the category of neighborhood greenery. Already 74 requests have been received via the form on the page Request measures neighborhood green trees.

Also, why this opportunity?

The addition to the already existing tree policy was introduced to give residents more room for action if they experience nuisance or need more trees in their neighborhood. It gives residents the opportunity to submit a proposal to prune, replace or add trees. After submitting a request, a neighborhood poll will follow so that other local residents can also give their opinions. Based on this poll, the request is further considered. If the local residents cannot reach an agreement, we ask the advice of the external tree committee.

Alderman Marijke van der Meer (Public Space): "From the number of requests already submitted, it appears that residents want to actively participate in thinking about the greenery in their neighborhood. With this opportunity we give residents more influence on their living environment. Whether it's about reducing nuisance or just adding trees: together, we are creating a greener and more pleasant Zoetermeer."

How to move forward?

All requests will be collected until Oct. 1, 2025, and a draw will then determine the order in which they will be processed. The first 30 requests will be picked up this year. More information can also be found at Request measures neighborhood green trees.

Looking ahead: picking up trees in the fall

In the fall, at the request of the City Council, there will be another action where residents can pick up free trees to plant themselves in their gardens. This action was a great success last year. More than 1600 trees found a new home in Zoetermeer gardens. This year we also want to encourage residents to contribute to a greener city. More information will follow after the summer vacations.
