Request measures neighborhood green trees

Update: The 2025 cases have largely been completed. The final work will be carried out during the upcoming pruning season. For this year’s cases, residents who have received an invitation can complete the neighborhood survey. The deadline is July 17, 2026.

If residents are inconvenienced by one or more neighborhood green trees on their street, they can submit a request to have the inconvenience remedied. For example, by having a tree pruned or replaced. It is also possible to submit a request to have trees added. This measure complements the existing tree policy and has been in effect since mid-2025.

Do you have nuisance from one or more trees (max. 5) in your neighborhood? Or would you like more trees in your neighborhood? Then you can submit a request to solve the nuisance or have a tree planted. On this page you can read more about the possibilities.

Nuisance

If you are inconvenienced by a tree, you can request that the tree be pruned or replaced. You can only submit this request for one or more trees that are close to your home. We maintain a radius of approximately 25 meters from the residence. In addition, only neighborhood green trees are eligible for action. Use the link below to see on a map whether the tree(s) you are bothered by falls into this category.

Add a tree

Instead, do you need an additional tree in your immediate area? Then you can submit a request to have a tree added. With requests to add a tree, the subsoil of the location plays an important role. The municipality always checks in advance whether this is possible in connection with cables and pipes that lie underground.

Neighborhood Survey

When you submit a request, we put out a neighborhood survey in the area. This allows your neighbors to indicate whether they agree with the measures you request. Residents within a 100-meter radius of the tree will receive a letter inviting them to take part in an online survey. After the neighborhood poll, there are 3 possible situations:

  • 30% or less neighbors agree with the request you made. Your request will then not be implemented.
  • 30% - 70% of local residents agree with the request you have made. An independent external tree commission is then called in to give advice. Then the College of Mayor and aldermen decides whether your request will be implemented or not.
  • 70% or more neighbors agree with the request you made. Your request will be implemented.

How does it work?

You can submit a request for the above measures by clicking the blue button below. Regarding 2026: all cases to be reviewed this year have already been identified. An evaluation will take place in late 2026/early 2027 to determine whether more requests will be reviewed in the coming years. If you submit a request, we will hold it until there is more clarity. This is expected to be in mid-2027.
After you submit your request, you will receive a confirmation of receipt from us via email.

  1. We’ll perform a quick check to see if the tree or location you’ve selected meets the requirements. The requirements are that the tree must be within 25 meters of your home, that it falls under the “neighborhood greenery” category, and that the ground conditions are suitable for your request. If your request does not meet the requirements, it will not be processed. You will receive a notification regarding this.
  2. Does your request meet the requirements? If so, we will contact you if necessary to discuss your request further.
  3. This is followed by the neighborhood poll and your neighbors can indicate how they feel about your request.
  4. Depending on the results of the neighborhood survey, your request will either be granted or denied. The applicant will be notified of the results of the neighborhood survey by email. Local residents will receive a letter regarding this matter.

Frequently asked questions supplement tree policy

Why is there an addition to the tree policy?

The addition is there so that residents can have more influence in resolving nuisances caused by trees. We want residents to come to a solution together that is good for everyone. This fits within the agreements of the coalition agreement and helps to solve nuisances faster. The council approved the tree policy supplement on July 14, 2025.

What are the implications?

This adjustment will make it easier to maintain or remove trees if there is a nuisance. Neighbors are allowed to have a say. If they cannot work it out together, the municipality seeks advice from the external tree commission. This allows for more participation and faster resolution of problems.
