Duties of polling place chairperson and members
Ballot Chair
As chairperson, you will be responsible for the running of the polling station in the municipality of Zoetermeer. You manage the 4 polling station members and you are responsible for the voting process and counting in the evening. The chairman is the contact person for the Elections team. The ideal chairman is precise, customer-oriented, confident and can organize and lead.
Duties:
- Chairs attend 2 trainings: an e-learning and a training VOX counting method, unless they have already attended them during the past election.
- The morning chairman will pick up the chairman's bag and iPad at the municipality on Tuesday, October 28 (the day before Election Day) between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
- The morning chairman opens the polling station and checks that all items are in place (voting booths, ballot boxes, table and chairs, etc.).
- Presidents work according to legal rules and municipal explanations.
- Chairmen direct the members of the polling station, they take care of the distribution of work.
- They use the iPad in the way they learned in training.
- Together with the polling officials, chairmen ensure that the voting process is conducted according to the rules.
- The morning chair is responsible for proper handover to the afternoon shift.
- After 9 p.m., the presiding officers, together with polling officials, count the votes cast.
- The noon chairman is in charge of counting the votes.
- The chairpersons together ensure that the minutes are completed correctly.
- The presidents bring the completed minutes together to City Hall.
Ballot member
Anyone who is 18 years old on election day can become a polling station member. As a polling station member, you are co-responsible for the conduct of the polling station under the direction of the chairperson. You are customer-oriented, assertive, accurate and have a great sense of responsibility.
Duties:
- Members take a mandatory e-learning course. You can take this online training from home at a time of your choosing.
- Together with the chair, members ensure that the voting process is conducted according to the rules.
- When necessary, members help move such things as voting booths, ballot boxes or tables.
- A member checks documents of the voter (such as voting pass, proxy, ID).
- A member gives the ballot to the voter.
- A member counts voting passes, proxies and voter cards.
- All members will count the votes cast after 9 p.m. along with the chairpersons.
- Members help clean up the polling place at the end of election day.
