Accessibility to polling stations
All polling stations are designed to enable voters with physical disabilities to cast their votes independently as much as possible. Any special accessibility features are indicated in the overview of polling stations. The polling stations are accessible in accordance with the guidelines of the national government.
- Handicapped parking is available at all polling places.
- The municipality will provide proper doorsteps and door wedges where needed.
- For visually impaired voters, all polling stations are equipped with reading magnifiers. City Hall polling station also has additional aids for this group of voters (a so-called voting template, sound box and a candidate list in Braille).
- For voters who are hard of hearing, a remote interpreter is available at all polling stations.
The municipality is doing its best to improve the accessibility of polling stations where necessary.
Voting by voters with physical disabilities
Voters who are unable to vote in the voting booth due to their physical condition may receive assistance. Examples include visually impaired voters or people with Parkinson's disease. These voters may receive assistance in filling out the ballot in the voting booth from a polling station employee or someone of their own choosing.
Voting by visually impaired voters
In all polling stations in Zoetermeer you can use a magnifying glass. At the City Hall polling station, entrance platform RandstadRail, we have extra aids so that voters with visual impairments can vote independently.
- We installed tactile guide lines on the floor. These lines show the way to the table with the polling staff, the voting booth and the ballot box.
- We use a voting template and soundbox (audio support) in a voting booth at this polling station. From the soundbox, a voice reads out the parties and candidates. This voice also explains how to fill in the ballot paper with the mold that is provided. The mold is a wooden casing that surrounds the ballot paper. Through holes in the mold, you can color in the correct dot on the ballot. For more explanation, watch the video Voting with a ballot mold.
- We don't forget assistance dogs either. Water bowls are available for them.
The polling officials present can help you anytime you want. Voters without disabilities can also vote at the polling station in City Hall.
