The municipality will create an area vision for Mayor Vernède Park and Paltel Avenue. This is a plan that states what the area may look like in the future. You can have a say in this.

Zoetermeer 2040

The Zoetermeer 2040 vision outlines a future vision for Zoetermeer. In 2040, Zoetermeer stands out in the region as the "city in and between the parks. Vernède Park is valuable as a park to be preserved. Because the greenery is outdated and sports clubs want to invest, the municipality will improve the park. There is a great need for new housing in our city. Therefore we are also looking if and where housing is possible. On the Paltelaan there is an empty site and space will become available when swimming pool De Driesprong will be demolished. The plan also looks at what can happen with the office building at Eerste Stationsstraat 185 and what would be a good place for a new sports hall.

How big is the area?

You can see on this map which area the municipality is planning for.

Collaborate

The municipality wants to involve local residents, associations and businesses in and around the park and all other residents of Zoetermeer in making the area vision. What do you think is positive about the park and its surroundings? What could be improved, what should stay and what should not, and what wishes for activities (sports, culture, education and living) are there that could take place in Vernède Park and on Paltelaan? In the coming months, the municipality wants to collect ideas and wishes for this area in different ways, for example in conversations, walks, meetings or in an online survey. These are shown in a timeline. With the ideas from the city, 3 variants of an area vision will be created in the spring of 2024 on which everyone can express a preference. In total, making the vision will take about a year. The city council will adopt the area vision.

On November 15, 2023, there was a kick-off meeting in 2B-Home to which everyone was welcome. Local residents received an invitation to this. In the kick-off meeting more was told about the making of the area vision. View the presentation, the atmospheric report and the elaboration of the discussion tables.

In December 2023, there were 3 walks through Vernède Park and around Dr. J.W. Paltelaan. They also stopped at the current building at Eerste Stationsstraat 185. About 55 people let us know what they think is important for the future of this area. You can read this in the report of the walks.

In January 2024, there were in-depth discussions with area partners. These were the sports providers and educational institutions. There were also separate discussions with young people and organizations involved with young people to hear their opinions. Here you can read the (anonymized) reports of these discussion tables.

View the results of a survey of the Zoetermeer municipality's digital panel to solicit input on the area vision. The survey was completed by more than 1,500 residents.

There was another meeting on February 7. At this second citywide meeting, theme tables continued to discuss ideas for the future of this area. You can read the Feb . 7, 2024 report here.

With input from the kick-off meeting, walks, discussion tables, ideas by email and ideas from the Feb. 7 evening, 3 variants of an area vision will be created. We will present these at a third citywide meeting on May 22, 2024 from 19:00-21:00 at Club Entree, Boerhaavelaan 33. Everyone is welcome here. Local residents have received an invitation.
