Narrative performance Maduro after the Dam
You may be familiar with Madurodam. But did you know that this miniature park is a monument to George Maduro and is named after him? Theater company For the Occasion plays the play Theater na de Dam Maduro about his life on May 4 in the theater of restaurant 1892.
The play follows George Maduro from his birth to his death in a German camp. Cast and crew are young people who believe that stories from the war are important and should not be forgotten. Robine, Claudia and Tara were friends before they started the play, but have gotten to know each other much better now. Robine: "It's a very intense play, with a lot of emotions so that's already quite a roller coaster. In addition, we work together a lot because we also wrote and direct the play ourselves." The 3 friends are now about the same age George was at the end of the war, at the age of 28 he died in Dachau.
Theater na de Dam wants to keep the memory alive and tell, show to the public. It started in Amsterdam, after the official Dam moment several performances are played about the war. Claudia: "I have a great fascination for history and especially the Second World War from a young age. In addition, I love acting immensely and that comes together in Maduro. This is not just a play, we are also telling a very important story that really happened!"
Tara: "We want to keep the memory alive, but definitely make the link to today. There is still war in the world and for the younger generation it is so important that the stories are told."
The evening performance will also feature a sign language interpreter.
